North Africa Agency Grain Council

The NAGC will serve as a regional convening platform uniting public and private actors to address key challenges in the grain sector. Its mandate is aligned with strategic priorities consistently identified by governments and international institutions like FAO, WTO, AfreximBank, Trade Development Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB). Its functions will include:

  • Policy advocacy
  • Regulatory alignment
  • Self-Regulation
  • Structured grain trading systems

Structured Trading Systems

Facilitating structured grain trading systems for transparency, order, and predictability aligned with AfCFTA and COMESA efforts to reduce non-tariff barriers

Self-Regulation

Supporting self-regulation through industry-led food safety surveillance, certification, and quality assurance aligned with FAO and WHO recommendations.

Human Capacity

Enhancing institutional and human capacity, especially in labs, inspections, and SPS systems critical needs outlined in WTO STDF and UNCTAD assessments.

A new opportunity for grain trade stakeholders in North Africa is emerging

Colleagues from around the world are now working to establish a new trade association focused on bringing value to grain trade stakeholders from governments, academia, and business across the agricultural product value chain in North Africa.

 

The North Africa Grain Council will soon be at the forefront of important and ground-breaking innovation, policy, research and education specifically fitted to the needs of the grain trade.

 

Better positioning of North African stakeholders in the international, trans Africa and regional marketplace will soon be available.   The timely and essential establishment of the North Africa Grain Council (NAGC) is set to address interconnected opportunities and challenges for you and the entire region. NAGC will serve as a structured public-private platform for stakeholder engagement, policy dialogue, and regulatory innovation that will foster greater compliance efficiencies, improved market access, and a more resilient and inclusive grain trade ecosystem.
